Historic Adresses

The relevance between John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Address' and modern day all includes change. While reading through his speech i found a of of similarities to what Our new President Barack Obama had said or wanted. "Change" being Obama's headline, really relates to John's speech. John had talked about "passing the torch". In my opinion i feel he shared that as if he was giving America a new world and how it shall be a different time, and a different America in a better way. Something that i caught while listening to John's Inaugural was when he said, "All this (referring to peace) will not be finished in the first one hundred days. Nor will it be finished in the first one thousand days; nor in the life of this Administration; nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet. But let us begin".

Something that also i feel relates to Barack's Inaugural is how they both mention that issues will not be fixed within a certain amount of time, but they will be fixed because it's a "different time" and time to make dramatic changes. An example of the similarities would be from Obama's speech, "Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. "They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America - they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord". It seems as though John and Barack both give off the impression that they give America the opportunity to make these changes, and that there's more to America than just leaving everything up to the Government.

Another strong relationship between John and Obama is their opinions towards war. According to BBC News Obama is planning on bringing home our troops little by little every month. This plan of Obama's plans on being complete by 2010. Military officials say they can send out more troops by the summer of 2009 which would double the amount of troops there. However, Obama does not intend on sending anymore out and want to stick with his plan to withdraw troops month by month.

Obama's Inauguration

"This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."

I chose this quote because I think that he really gives off a positive message across. He mentions how we REMAIN the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth, and how our minds are NO LESS inventive, and so on.

I found this to be inspiring because he's not only saying we will fix this issue,  he's saying we have what we need to fix it, and we always have, there are just adjustments that need to be made. These words really seem open people's eyes to what they have in them self and what we, as America, are capable of. Another message I think it brings out is not only what people are capable of, but because of our economy being so trashed, his words give people inspiration and self confidence to pursue in their work/joba and what they feel will be best for them and or their family.

Plant a Bush back in Texas

Throughout the years that President Bush has been in office, there have many difficulties and negative thoughts towards him and his decisions. With only two weeks left in office, President Bush now decides to Protect the pacific and it's marine life. Why now? How come this decision wasn't made earlier in his years of being president?
I see this as him trying to leave the office as a "good president". I don't know what was going through his head, but just because he makes this last minute choice to safeguard far-flung areas totaling 195,280 square miles, doesn't mean people will love you and respect you Mr. Bush. There have been many wrong choices in the past and well, look what you left for our future President Obama...A wrecked economy. Not only is our economy down the drain but you have made some un called for decisions such as; Failed to regulate greenhouse gases at home, Failed to develop clean energy sources,Abandoned endangered species and so on.

According to the Washington Post,
"Bush's decision to safeguard far-flung areas totaling 195,280 square miles, which comes just two weeks before he leaves office, underscores his contradictory environmental record. While he has resisted imposing mandatory curbs on greenhouse gas emissions linked to climate change and has opened large areas of the nation to drilling, mining and other use of resources, by the end of his term he will have protected more ocean than any person in history."

I'm sure there are those who appreciate the effort you are trying to put in, but in the end, you honestly have put America in a complicated place and we now can only have hope for our Future President to clean up your mess and put this country at it's best.

Internship

1. What do you hope to learn or discover about the "adult" world of work while you are at your internship?
Something I hope to learn throughout my internship would be how you have to really rely on yourself and you cannot let others down. Another thing i feel i will discover will be how in some jobs your boss and even others will depend on you, and letting them down can lead you to being fired or laid off. I feel another important lesson would be to always try your hardest and stay on task even when a lot of pressure is put on you.

2. What do you hope to learn or discover about yourself and your identity while you are at your internship this semester?
Although I already feel like I'm becoming more responsible for my actions coming into my junior year, I think that having an internship will really prove to others that I am capable of taking care of myself and my own responsibility's. Something else I hope to discover would be becoming more outgoing and becoming more comfortable talking to those I have just met for a first time. I feel that i am already alright talking to new people but this should help a lot especially with adults and even future job interviews.

3. What goals do you have for yourself for your internship experience?
Like I mentioned before I hope to become more of an outgoing person throughout my internship, but another goal I hope for is to become more organized and responsible for my work. Because internship relates to a future job, I know i will have to be ready for anything that comes towards me and I have to learn how to handle it in a very professional way rather than thinking of it as a joke or something not as important.
